What is VETASSESS?

VETASSESS is an Australian government-approved skills assessment agency that evaluates the applications of numerous professionals seeking to move to Australia on Skilled Visas. It’s Australia’s leading vocational education and training assessment provider that provides skills assessments for General Professional Occupations and Trade Occupations. VETASSESS is experienced in evaluating job applicants’ qualifications and work experience, migrants, students, and industry members. Authorized VETASSESS staff assess and authenticate that the applicant’s qualifications, job experience, and duties they claimed to be skilled at professionally for immigration purposes meet the Australian Government’s standards for the linked nominated occupations.

Why is VETASSESS required?

  • Having a VETASSESS skill assessment is a must to be eligible for applying for a Skilled VISA.
  • It verifies that the applicant is a genuinely skilled individual with the necessary qualifications in his field.
  • The applicant’s points test system may award him additional points based on the positive assessment result.

There are two types of VETASSESS skills assessments available to applicants:-

  • VETASSESS Professional Occupations – Skills Assessment Type-1

This includes evaluating the applicant’s qualifications and employment of the suitability of his nominated occupation and assessing the level of qualification’s comparability with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). The assessment includes determining whether the applicant’s employment location is within or outside of Australia and making decisions about the relevance of their work experience and qualifications for the nominated occupation.

Application process

First, applicants must determine whether the occupation they require the skill assessment is on the list of skilled jobs. There are six groups of professions.

Group D

Group E

Group F

Different groups have different qualification requirements and standards. They must apply for the evaluation following their particular group’s standards.

VETASSESS Professional Occupation Skills Assessment Applications – Processing Time

The length of time it takes to process Professional occupations skills assessment applications is determined by the type of application. It usually takes between 8 and 10 weeks.

  • VETASSESS Trade Occupations – Skills Assessment (Type 2)

VETASSESS created a fact sheet with varied criteria for various jobs. The VETASSESS trade professions skills assessment compares the applicant’s abilities and knowledge to your specified occupation as outlined in the VETASSESS fact sheet. Your qualifications and occupational license will be evaluated against approved Australian and non-Australian qualifications and occupational licenses.

Application process

Pathway 1 – If the applicant doesn’t have an Australian qualification or occupational license, he’ll need to take this route.

The minimum work experience requirements for the chosen profession: 

  • 6years of experience in a licensed trade (with no formal training).
  • 4 years of experience in a licensed trade (with relevant formal training).
  • 5 years of experience in non-licensed trades (with no formal training).
  • 3 years of experience in non-licensed trades (with relevant formal training).

Applicants must show proof of full-time paid employment in their chosen profession. Employer statements and payment records are essential documentation (pay slips, bank statements, taxation records, annual payment summaries, etc.) A copy of the applicant’s qualification must be sent (Award certificates and Transcripts).

Pathway 2 – If the Applicants hold an Australian qualification or occupational license, pathway two it is. 

For the applicant’s specified occupation, the following minimum Australian qualifications or current Australian occupational license and work experience criteria apply: 

  • A copy of the applicant’s Australian qualification or current Australian occupational license must be submitted. 
  • Applicant must show proof of three years of full-time paid employment in his specified occupation at a suitable skill level. 
  • Pay stubs, bank statements, tax records, annual payment summaries, and other documents may be included. 
  • Applicants having a current Australian occupational license must show that they have worked full-time in the nominated occupation in Australia for at least 12 months in the previous three years.

VETASSESS Trade Occupation Skills Assessment Applications – Processing Time

The length of time it takes to process trade occupation skills assessment applications is determined by the type of application. It usually takes between 12 and 14 weeks.

 Necessary Documents

All documents must be colored copies of the originals in good quality. If your documents aren’t in English, you’ll need to submit copies of the sources and English translations from a licensed translator.

  • Payment Evidence – e.g., Payslips, Bank Statements, Taxation Documents, insurance or superannuation records, etc.
  • Organizational Chart (In case of Managerial Occupations)

General Tips:

  1. Choosing a suitable occupation for a skills evaluation can be challenging.
  2. Applicants must be aware of their job category and their place within it. Despite being the norm in their home country, the applicants’ qualifications and methods of performing the job may differ from those used in Australian sectors. The Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations evaluates job roles.
  3. Don’t be discouraged if the applicant does not meet all of the job requirements. He might have other choices. Determine where the candidate excels in terms of Australian occupational norms.
  4. The applicant’s major field of study may be extremely relevant in some job sectors.
  5. Confirm the applicant’s primary job responsibilities.
  6. Verify that the applicant’s work experience is highly relevant.
  7. Please verify that the applicant can demonstrate his seniority.
  8. Applicants will need a mix of qualifications and work experience.
  9. If the applicant is self-employed, he must provide documentation.
